My unusual interview with @DirtyInPublic

My unusual interview with @DirtyInPublic

So to help me in my blogging challenge for April I asked Marrie (AKA @DirtyInPublic) to ask me some questions. I have to say I was expecting the standard dating questions that I get asked over and over (which is fine by the way) – it’s nice to be asked something different for a change. So without further ado here we go.

My Interview with @DirtyInPublic

Are there any occupational hazards to being a writer?

Yes – one of them is probably working for me. I like to think that I’m very organised, always on the ball and ready to shake up the business world but actually sometimes we’re on the bus behind asking everyone else to slow down. That normally results in the writers having to pick up the slack every now and again.

Also there is hand ache and R.S.I.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Instantly I thought of Patrick Stewart who played Captain Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation. Have I ever told you that Captain Picard taught me everything I know about management? Truth be told it’s how I’d like to see myself – but sometimes I’m probably more the Captain of the Titanic.

What was the greatest thing you learned at school?

Can you guess which one I am

Can you guess which one I am

This one is easy. It was to accept and help everyone I could. I had an amazing class at primary school (not sure what the USA call that?). We had every type of person you could imagine. I remember one guy called Andrew (who I really need to send an email to and say hi). Andrew is deaf and at school a few of us used to give up some of our breaks to sit and read with him. I don’t think that stuff happens anymore but it helped make me who I am. Andrew is one of the most intelligent and caring people I ever knew. I’d like to think we are all better off for spending that time with him.

How do you feel about being interviewed?

Hate it! It’s really hard for me because I actually don’t like being in the spot light. You’ll often hear me talk about my amazing team of #SWEXPERTS, the people I work with…etc. but you’ll often not hear me sing my own praises. But being interviewed comes with the territory. I actually asked the Singles Warehouse Experts earlier in the year if they would like to interview me for their own sites because I wanted a little more practice. I’m personally very proud of Sandy’s Radio interview.

What is the single most powerful challenge when it comes to writing?

For me it’s always about content. I think that’s why I’ve taken on the April blogging challenge personally. Unless you have something to write about writing is a challenge. There are those exceptionally gifted individuals who can write about anything, anywhere, anyhow. I’m not one of those. I really have to think about what I am writing when I do it.

Also writers block. Bloggers don’t realise how much of a problem this can be. Not only do you not write, which means no new content for your site, it also means that the readers you have attracted leave…because there is nothing new to read. We should probably find a cure for that!

While writing, what do you do to beef up your creative imagination or overcome writers block?

I stop! Seriously remember these words if you have writers block “Put down the keyboard and step away!” If you continue to force yourself to write the chances are what you create won’t be half as good compared to what you normally produce. Besides everyone’s allowed a day off right?

What did you want to be when you grew up?USS Enterprise

This is a great question because it actually came up at a business event not that long ago. Naturally I wanted to be Captain of the USS Enterprise. Technically that answers your question but I feel I should expand.

At a business event there was this guy up on stage telling people about ‘power of the mind stuff’ and how from a very young age we’re told “You can’t do that”. It’s not a great way to be inspired now is it?

You’ll all remember that moment at school where you were about 6. The one where the first teacher asks you want you want to be when you are older. A doctor, a vet or a Starship Captain are the normal answers right? Well I was told “No, you can’t do that”.

A few years later, say when you are around 10, you are asked the question again. Now I knew at this point I couldn’t have my very own Starship so I decided to scale down my dreams. I answered “I want to be an astronaut”. Again I was put down.

A few years later the exact same question and I thought I’d answer the same. I was told to get a proper job like plumbing. So there you have it – in the space of 10 years I went from wanting to explore the stars to fixing pipes (which there is nothing wrong with by the way).

Luckily I didn’t pay any attention.

Do you ever write naked? {Hey, are you really surprised? It’s me! LOL!}

No I’m not surprised and the world is simply not ready for that information.

Have you ever found true love?

Yes – I can safely say I have. Both now and in the past.

Tell us about something that has just happened or is about to happen in your life that you would like to share?

I’m going on a little weekend away soon – but by the time you read this that will have already happened. That’s time travel blogging at it’s best right?

If you were deserted on an island, who are 3 famous people you would want with you?

None thank you very much. Just me, partner and my dogs will be fine. Oh and a Starbucks. And wi-fi. A Indian Takeaway. My friends. And ofcourse my #SWEXPERTS and #SDEXPERTS. We need a big island.
