TikTok Creator Rewards UK: What It Really Pays Per 1,000 Views

TikTok Creator Rewards UK

Content

Every week someone asks me whether TikTok actually pays creators, and if so, how much. The honest answer is yes, it can, but probably not as much as you think, and only if you play by its rules. The main way TikTok pays for views is the TikTok Creator Rewards Program, and in this guide I will explain exactly how it works in the UK, who qualifies, what it realistically pays per 1,000 views and how to make the most of it.

I run a social media agency, so I see the numbers behind a lot of accounts. I will keep this practical and honest, with no “earn thousands overnight” promises.

What Is the TikTok Creator Rewards Program?

The Creator Rewards Program is TikTok’s scheme for paying eligible creators based on how their videos perform. It replaced the old Creator Fund and the Creativity Program Beta, and came out of beta in 2024. Unlike the old fund, which shared out a fixed pot of money, payments are now based on a rate per 1,000 qualified views, often called RPM (revenue per mille).

The big change is that it rewards longer, original content. Only videos over one minute count, which is a deliberate push by TikTok to compete with YouTube.

Who Can Join TikTok Creator Rewards in the UK?

The UK is one of the countries where the programme is available. To join, you need to meet these requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have at least 10,000 followers.
  • Have at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days. This is a rolling window, so it is about recent performance, not lifetime views.
  • Have a personal account in good standing. Business accounts are not eligible.
  • Follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines and the programme’s own terms.

Once you meet the thresholds, you can apply through the TikTok Studio or creator tools in the app. TikTok sometimes changes these requirements, so it is always worth checking the latest details in the app before you plan around them.

If you are still building up to those numbers, I wrote a separate guide on how many followers on TikTok you need to get paid, which covers every route, not just Creator Rewards.

What Counts as a Qualified View?

Not every view earns money. TikTok only pays for qualified views, and the exact definition is not fully published. Based on what TikTok has said and what creators report, qualified views generally need to be:

  • On original videos that are more than one minute long
  • From regions where the programme pays out
  • Genuine views rather than paid promotion, bots or repeated views
  • Usually from the For You feed rather than people already following you, which has been widely reported but not officially confirmed

This is why your Creator Rewards earnings can look very different from your total view count. A video with 500,000 views might only have a portion of those count as qualified.

How Much Does TikTok Creator Rewards Pay Per 1,000 Views?

This is the question everyone wants answered. TikTok does not publish a fixed rate, and RPM varies a lot depending on your audience, niche, engagement and the time of year.

Industry estimates and creator reports suggest a typical range of roughly $0.40 to $1.50 per 1,000 qualified views, with UK creators often reporting somewhere around the £0.50 to £1 mark. Some creators in valuable niches, with highly engaged audiences, report more. Others report less.

To put that in context, using a rough figure of £0.80 per 1,000 qualified views:

  • 100,000 qualified views would earn around £80
  • 1 million qualified views would earn around £800
  • 10 million qualified views would earn around £8,000

These are illustrations, not promises. Your own RPM will depend on your content and audience. The best way to know is to look at your own dashboard once you have joined.

What Affects Your RPM?

TikTok says payouts are influenced by four main factors. Understanding them helps you make videos that earn more.

Originality

Reposts, compilations, reaction videos with little added value and content from other platforms tend to earn little or nothing. Original ideas filmed by you perform best.

Play duration

How long people actually watch matters. A one-minute video that most viewers watch to the end is worth more than a three-minute video people skip after ten seconds.

Search value

TikTok is increasingly used as a search engine. Videos that answer questions people search for, such as how-tos, explainers and reviews, can earn more because they keep getting found long after posting.

Audience engagement

Likes, comments, shares and saves all signal that your content is valuable. Engaged audiences tend to lead to higher RPM.

How to Get Paid

Once you are in the programme, your estimated earnings appear in your creator tools. TikTok calculates rewards and adds them to your balance, and you can withdraw to a linked payment method such as a bank account or PayPal, where available, once you reach the minimum withdrawal amount shown in the app. Check the current payout options and thresholds in your account, as these change from time to time.

Do You Pay Tax on TikTok Creator Rewards in the UK?

Yes. In the UK, money you earn from TikTok counts as income. If your total trading income from things like content creation is over £1,000 in a tax year, you will usually need to register for Self Assessment with HMRC and declare it. Gifts from brands and free products can also count as income in some circumstances.

Platforms like TikTok may also share information about creators’ earnings with HMRC under digital platform reporting rules, so it is not something to ignore. Keep records of what you earn and any expenses, and speak to an accountant if you are not sure. I am not a tax adviser, so please treat this as a starting point rather than advice for your situation.

Is TikTok Creator Rewards Worth It?

For most people, Creator Rewards on its own will not replace a salary. Hitting millions of qualified views every month is hard, and RPM can go up and down. That said, it can be a very welcome extra income stream for creators who are already making good content.

In my experience, the creators who earn real money from TikTok use Creator Rewards as one part of a wider mix:

  • Brand partnerships through the TikTok Creator Marketplace or directly with brands
  • TikTok Shop affiliate commissions for recommending products
  • LIVE gifts from viewers during live streams
  • Subscriptions for exclusive content
  • Driving traffic to their own products, services or business

For businesses, this is the most important point. If you are a business on TikTok, you are not eligible for Creator Rewards anyway, and the real value is in reaching customers rather than earning per view. I explain the business side in how to monetise TikTok as a UK business.

Beware of “Get Paid to Watch TikTok” Scams

While we are talking about TikTok money, a quick warning. Creator Rewards pays people who make videos, not people who watch them. There are lots of apps and websites claiming you can earn money simply by watching TikTok videos, and many are scams or pay so little it is not worth your time or your data. I looked at this in detail in earning money watching TikTok: the truth.

Tips to Earn More From TikTok Creator Rewards

  1. Make videos just over a minute. Aim for tight, well-edited videos of 60 to 90 seconds that hold attention all the way through.
  2. Hook people in the first two seconds. Retention starts at the very beginning.
  3. Answer questions people search for. Use clear titles, captions and on-screen text with the words people type into TikTok search.
  4. Stay original. Film your own ideas rather than reposting or stitching other people’s content without adding much.
  5. Post consistently. You need 100,000 views every 30 days to stay eligible, so regular posting matters.
  6. Encourage comments. Ask a question, invite opinions and reply to your audience.
  7. Study your analytics. Look at which videos have the highest RPM and make more like them.

What Kind of Content Earns Best?

Every niche is different, but some types of content tend to suit the Creator Rewards model well because they are naturally longer, original and searchable.

  • Tutorials and how-tos. Cooking, DIY, tech tips, beauty routines and anything people search for step by step.
  • Explainers. Breaking down news, money topics, history or science in a clear, engaging way.
  • Storytelling. Personal stories, mysteries and series that keep people watching to the end and coming back for part two.
  • Reviews and comparisons. Honest product, place and service reviews that answer real buying questions.
  • Behind the scenes. A look inside a job, a business or a hobby that people are curious about.

What tends to earn less: short trends and dances under a minute, reposted clips, compilations and anything that relies on borrowed content.

A Simple Plan If You Are Starting Out

If you are not eligible yet, here is how I would approach it:

  1. Pick a clear niche you can talk about for months without running out of ideas.
  2. Post short videos to grow followers while you learn what your audience responds to.
  3. Start mixing in videos over a minute on your best-performing topics, so you are ready when you qualify.
  4. Track your 30-day views so you know how close you are to 100,000.
  5. Apply as soon as you hit the thresholds and keep your posting rhythm going.

Common Questions

How much does TikTok pay for 1 million views in the UK?

It depends on how many of those views are qualified and your RPM. As a rough guide, 1 million qualified views might earn somewhere in the region of a few hundred pounds up to around £1,000, but it varies widely.

Can I join Creator Rewards with a business account?

No. The programme is for personal accounts. Businesses make money on TikTok in other ways, such as TikTok Shop and advertising.

Do videos under one minute earn anything?

Not through Creator Rewards. Short videos can still help you grow followers and reach, which feeds into other ways of earning.

Do I lose access if my views drop?

You need to keep meeting the requirements. If your views or account standing drop, your eligibility can be affected, so check your status regularly.

The Bottom Line

TikTok Creator Rewards is a real way to earn money from your videos in the UK, but it rewards consistency, originality and longer content, and the pay per 1,000 views is modest. Treat it as one income stream among several, keep an eye on your tax and focus on making videos people genuinely want to watch.
